Mike Norton, Traditional Carpentry in Normandy

Kent Oak Timber Frame house carving

Traditional carpentry is a skill that can only be perfected through years of training and working with timber.  By appreciating the value of craftsmanship, using traditional tools and skills, objects and building of enduring beauty and strength are created.

Restoration carpentry is a very specialised skill, requiring a sound knowledge of the structure and stresses within a building.  New oak can be joined in to old oak, giving a repair that not only looks good but restores the strength of the building

Oak framed buildings, houses, garages, cart sheds, extensions, conservatories, garden rooms and other bespoke oak frames can be manufactured by hand in Normandy  to your requirements.  Using traditional methods, the oak frames are crafted to the highest standard.  With knowledge and carpentry skills that have been built up over many years,  you will enjoy a first class service and a building that is unparallelled in build quality.

We would be pleased if you were to browse our website, in which you will find examples of work completed, together with existing buildings from which you might glean some inspiration.  Our gallery also shows some fine examples of carving and intricate works, together with restoration work done on historic buildings, a very specialist skill requiring a high degree of craftsmanship.   Carved details in your frame will turn it from a stunning frame into an exceptionally stunning frame, increasing its beauty and the value of your home.  It does cost a bit more, but it is well worth the extra effort as it is something you will appreciate every day.

Only traditional jointing methods are used, such as mortice and tenon, dovetails, bridle joints, etc. which are held together with hand made oak pegs, giving a frame that is both enduring and beautiful.
